Nesta primeira parte da entrevista, Luiz \u201cBoyloc0\u201d Gomes partilha o in\u00edcio da sua trajet\u00f3ria no poker. Desde as primeiras partidas em fam\u00edlia at\u00e9 \u00e0 decis\u00e3o de seguir o cash game como carreira. Luiz explica os fatores que o levaram a apostar no poker a tempo inteiro. E, ainda, como a Polarize Poker desempenhou um papel fundamental no seu crescimento como jogador profissional.<\/p>
I started like this, I learned the game, I was very young, I must have been 13 when I learned to play the game with my father. I've always loved it. Then I didn't have much knowledge about the poker world, because there weren't many poker professionals, it was a profession so I didn't know how it worked properly.<\/p>
I tried it a few times when I was younger, but I played MTT at the time and managed to make bank a few times, but I always ended up spending or losing the same amount on poker. Then after a while, when I was about 24, I started to see more about the cash game<\/em><\/strong>. A\u00ed eu fiquei mais interessado, comecei a procurar sobre e comecei a jogar enquanto eu fazia est\u00e1gio ainda na faculdade. Ou seja, comecei a jogar por conta pr\u00f3pria mais trabalhando. Ent\u00e3o, com 24 anos eu decidi sair do meu est\u00e1gio<\/strong> and come\u00e7ar a jogar o poker a 100%<\/strong>.<\/p> E a\u00ed eu comecei, fiz um ano de carreira a solo a\u00ed antes de eu descobrir a Polarize. Na hora que eu descobri a Polarize, eu fiz a candidatura. Aceitaram-me e a\u00ed tem acho que 3 anos que eu estou com a Polarize!\u00a0<\/p> O in\u00edcio da minha carreira foi at\u00e9 bem tranquilo, eu entrei na Cash Game Academy, eu jogava j\u00e1 por conta pr\u00f3pria. Ou seja, inicialmente, eu estava jogando o NL25 por conta pr\u00f3pria, s\u00f3 que eu jogava torneio tamb\u00e9m, n\u00e3o tinha muita disciplina. Jogava quase o que eu queria ali, enquanto eu jogava sozinho.\u00a0<\/p> As soon as I joined Cash Game Academy by Polarize<\/strong> jogando o NL10 correu muito bem. Ou seja, nno primeiro m\u00eas eles j\u00e1 me botaram pra time principal jogando o NL25.<\/p> No NL25 continuou tudo indo muito bem, foi muito r\u00e1pido at\u00e9 ir para NL50. Em NL50 tamb\u00e9m foi relativamente bem, foi um pouco mais demorado, mas n\u00e3o teve muitos problemas, que eu me lembro. S\u00f3 quando eu fui dar o shot pra NL100 \u00e9 que eu tive a\u00ed problemas maiores, que eu fiquei\u2026 Nunca tive uma reserva de dinheiro muito grande e quando eu comecei a tentar jogar NL100 correu muito mal. Foi correndo mal v\u00e1rias vezes seguidas e a\u00ed foi um per\u00edodo de cerca de 6 meses, que eu fiquei perdendo dinheiro na NL100 e recuperando na NL50.<\/p> S\u00f3 que enquanto eu estava tentando me estabilizar em NL100, eu fiquei um tempo sem tirar dinheiro nenhum, que foi uma fase de maior dificuldade.\u00a0<\/p> N\u00e3o sei, eu acho que \u00e9 o n\u00edvel onde realmente o field come\u00e7a a ficar mais dif\u00edcil. E a\u00ed 10 buy-ins acaba que qualquer runada fraca ali voc\u00ea pega 10 buy-ins de vari\u00e2ncia, e isso acabou acontecendo v\u00e1rias vezes repetidas\u2026 Foi um per\u00edodo de uns 5 meses que eu levei at\u00e9 eu conseguir pela primeira vez deslanchar na NL100 e come\u00e7ar a ganhar dinheiro l\u00e1.\u00a0<\/p> Todos os anos meus foram melhores do que o anterior por uma quantidade significativa. Ent\u00e3o quando eu cheguei na NL200 tamb\u00e9m n\u00e3o foi assim de primeira. N\u00e3o foi f\u00e1cil! Mas tamb\u00e9m n\u00e3o foi a mesma dificuldade que eu tive na NL100! <\/p> J\u00e1 tinha mais experi\u00eancia, a table selection j\u00e1 estava um pouco melhor. O meu jogo j\u00e1 estava mais s\u00f3lido, ent\u00e3o n\u00e3o lembro de ter passado a mesma dificuldade do que essa \u00e9poca.\u00a0<\/p> Agora eu tentei jogar NL500 e assim, economicamente, foi o maior desastre da minha carreira. Eu fui pro shot de 500 e perdi 20 buy-ins. A\u00ed eu tive que grindar de novo, grindei de novo, jogando 100 e 200, mas assim, j\u00e1 tinha conseguido construir alguma almofada financeira. Ent\u00e3o, por mais que o valor tenha sido maior, n\u00e3o foi nem perto da dificuldade o que eu passei enquanto eu estava de 50 para 100.<\/p> Eu estou jogando 200 e 100. Isto porque 200 o volume fica muito fraco j\u00e1, dia de semana, nos hor\u00e1rios que eu gosto de jogar. Ent\u00e3o voc\u00ea acaba tendo que buscar a mesa em 100, toda hora.\u00a0<\/p> My goals are 50,000 hands per month<\/strong>, but it varies... In turn that improved my performance a lot and I was able to perform at a better level, more consistently! I think the key word for any poker player and for almost anything in life is consistency, so it's maintaining consistency, discipline and putting in the work, studying, working away at the tables... I think that's the secret to success.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p> Well, it was quite by chance... I was playing on my own, I was playing NL25 and I played a lot of tournaments there as well, I played a lot of Speed Racer that there is on GG poker, which is a fast tournament. Then I went to these Discord groups, I started talking to more people about poker, and I began to learn about other things and then one of these students showed me that they had Coaching For Profit<\/em><\/strong> (CFPs) of poker and so on, I started studying... And then I saw that there were two that were in Portuguese, and they were the two best at the time, which were BRPC and Polarize. So I applied to both, and at the time the BRPC didn't accept my application, but Polarize did, so I went to Polarize!<\/p> No, I had already quit my other job, so I only had a poker degree, and my degree was also at a distance... so I always had a lot of time there to dedicate to poker, and the classes were always in the afternoon here in Brazil, so I hardly ever missed any classes, I never had any problems booking classes with my private coaches at Polarize.\u00a0<\/p>What do you think were the main challenges you faced at the start of your career?
