Peter Jorgne, EPT Paris 2023 runner-up, reports fourth biggest stack on Day 1a
The EPT Paris 2024 Main Event, with €5,300 buy-in, started on Monday at the Le Palais des Congrès of Paris. The Finnish player Juhani Rantala led the Day 1a with 607 participants, last year's runner-up, Peter Jorgne, recorded the fourth largest pile-up.
Rantala accumulated 299,000 chips until the end of the opening flight, overtaking Grigorii Rodin (295,000) and Guillaume Nolet (295,000) for the chip lead.
Only a few tournaments in the world can match the slow structure of the EPT Main Event, so moving forward with a big pile is just the beginning.
Jorgne knows this as well as anyone in the field, having come down to the last hand last year here in Paris and finished in 2nd place, winning €780,100. The Swedish runner-up has continued where he left off; with 286,000 chips, he's currently in fourth place.
One of the players who has already won the top prize is Simon Wiciak, champion of the EPT Barcelona 2023 Main Event. Wiciak was unveiled today as the latest PokerStars ambassador. Representing the red symbol, Wiciak played Day 1a and advanced with 115,000 chips above average.
Team Pro colleague Ramon Colillas finished the flight below average with 75,000 chips and so did the expert commentator of the PokerStars TV, Maria Ho (59.000).
So far, 200 players have secured their place in the next stage. The second starting stage, Day 1b, is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, at 12:00 CET. Players have the opportunity to re-enter until the start of Day 2.
Live coverage of the EPT Main Event continues on PokerNews. PokerStars TV will broadcast the tournament from Wednesday.
Last year, Razvan Belea from Romania won the inaugural EPT Paris Main Event, beating a field of 1,606 entrants to win €1,170,000.
