Poker 2024: RuiNF and Piranha in the Biggest Online Tournament Ever

The WCOOP series season is always an eagerly awaited moment for poker players and fans around the world. However, in 2024, the spotlight turned to the $5,000 WSOP Online Main Event, played on the virtual tables of GGPoker. This was the biggest online tournament ever, with a record prize pool of $29.193.500, after 6,146 entries.
Last Tuesday, two of the best professionals in the Polarize Poker, Rui Ferreira and Diogo Coelho, returned to the tables in the fight for the coveted gold bracelet and the first prize of $4.021.012, the biggest prize in the history of online tournaments. Among the 9 finalists, the two Portuguese players showed all their talent and resilience.

An Incredible Journey: The Podium and the Biggest Prize Ever in Portugal
Despite their brilliant performances, Portugal's run to the title ended at the 3-handed stage. Rui Ferreira, which guaranteed the 3rd place, took home a monumental prize of $2.390.418, becoming the player with the biggest prize ever in the history of portuguese poker.
Diogo Coelho wasn't far behind either, winning the 5th position and pocket $1.421.478, the biggest prize of his career.
Although the bracelet didn't come to Portugal, the two Polarize Poker athletes left the event with prizes of seven digits, writing another golden chapter in the history of national poker.
A Historic Day for Portugal and Polarize Poker
Daniel Custódio, better known as Dani, one of the big names in Polarize Poker, also expressed his pride at seeing his colleagues in action. In an excerpt from a recent interview, Dani shares his vision of this epic day:
“Yesterday was a historic day for Portugal, in terms of cards and poker. For Portugal and for Polarize, I think it was an incredible day. When I see our players make a brilliant play, I feel that pride as if it were me.”
Dani also highlighted the closeness she has with Diogo “Piranha” Coelho, one of the finalists:
“I work with Diogo every day, we study together. To be there watching him at the final table was unbelievable. We didn't get first place or second, but it was incredible to have two of our players shine in the biggest online poker tournament ever.”
Finally, Dani mentioned the greatness of Rui Ferreira, a player you can't help but admire:
“Rui is a robot, he's not human. Even though he's played less lately, whenever he plays he gives his all. And yesterday he proved that once again.”
